SP's rails ran through IL, MO, TN, AR, LA, KS, OK, TX, NM, AZ, UT, NV, CA, and OR, including a route southward into Mexico! Rio Grande Industries (D&RGW) bought the SP in 1988, kept the Southern Pacific name, and expanded it's trackage to include IA, NE, CO and WY, then, virtually the entire Southwestern USA!
